The best cheap drone sales and deals for October 2021
Cheap drones have taken off over the last couple of years after the tech powering previously expensive devices dropped in price. That means more hobbyists are taking to the skies, and, thanks to a range of drone deals and sales you'll be able to join them for less than ever before.
While premium drones prioritise storage processes, RAW capture formats and super-fast live transmission speeds, cheap drones can offer all the basic elements and some fancy extra features for a much lower price. Plus, the world's top drone brands now offer their own budget lines to bring more professional-quality devices to the mainstream as well. You'll find DJI features several times on this roundup of the best cheap drone deals, with prices that would have seemed impossible just a few years ago.
These cheaper drones usually offer easy take-off and landing controls, 720p - 4K photography, GPS enabled flight modes like Follow Me, and flight times of between 7 and 30 minutes. However, each model offers a slightly different suite of specs, features, and control styles so finding the perfect cheap drone for you can require a little digging.
Thankfully, we've done all that for you, rounding up all the best cheap drone deals right here so you can find the features you need at the lowest price possible. Plus, we may see even more discounts than usual as we approach November in this year's Black Friday deals.
The best cheap drone deals and sales
1. DJI Mavic Mini
The best cheap drone for photography
Camera: 1080p 60fps / 2.7K 30fps | Flight time: 30 minutes | Weight: 249g | Dimensions: 5.5 x 3.1 x 2.2 inches (folded), 9.6 x 11.3 x 2.1 inches (unfolded) | Gimbal: Yes
Long flight time
Portable and powerful
Lower weight can be exempt from regulations
4K only available in Mini 2
The DJI Mavic Mini is a little older, but it can be a great place to start if you're looking to dive straight into more professional quality drone photography without forking out for the latest and greatest. You're getting an incredibly lightweight copter here considering the excellent features on offer. Plus, that low weight can leave you free to fly in more locations, exempting you from regulations in some countries.
Footage is recorded in 1080p at 60fps or 2.7K at 30fps which makes for a nice compromise down from the most expensive 4K Mini 2 and can still net you some fantastic shots, especially with the in-built Helix, Circle, Dronie and Rocket quick shot features. These presets automatically guide your drone in a smooth motion to make for an easy but incredibly effective sweeping shot.
Flying is simplified through the popular DJI app, but there's a 360-degree propeller guard and boosted sensors in here to keep everything protected if you're still learning or run into some trouble in the air as well.
DJI Mini 2
The latest version of DJI's more budget friendly drone range is the Mini 2. You're upgrading to 4K footage at 30fps, a 4x digital zoom, RAW photo mode, fantastic 10km video transmission and also picking up extra Boomerang and Panorama quick shot presets as well. At just $100 / £100 more than the original model there's certainly excellent value in here if you can spring a little extra cash.
2. Eachine E520S
Best cheap drone for 4K footage
Camera: 1080p / 4K | Flight time: 14 - 16 minutes | Weight: 280g | Dimensions: 15 x 11 x 2.9 inches
Waypoint flight mode
One key lift off and landing
GPS positioning and follow me modes
If you don't want to spend the $400 / £400 asking price of the DJI Mini 2, however, you will find a more budget-friendly 4K option in the Eachine E520S. You're dropping quite a few features to pack Ultra-HD resolution into this price tag, but if you're after resolution over all else it's an excellent option to keep those costs low.
That's not to say you're skimping on those extra features, however. You'll still find plenty of extra functionality under the hood here to go with the wallet-friendly price. GPS positioning and Follow Me modes allow a more hands-off approach to capturing that perfect shot and Altitude Hold will ensure your footage remains consistent as well.
The Waypoint Flight mode in here is a unique and handy feature that allows you to draw a route on your smartphone for your drone to follow. That's perfect for those who want a smooth shot but haven't yet got to grips with more complex control patterns. If you are still learning there's also one key take off, landing, and return home baked in here.
All in all, this is an excellent cheap drone for the money. You might be losing out on some DJI-specific features like quick shots and long video transmission distances, but with a 4K camera at the helm and a range of extra flight modes there's plenty to dig into here.
3. DJI / Ryze Tech Tello
Best cheap drone for beginners
Camera: 720p | Flight time: 13 minutes | Weight: 80g | Dimensions: 3.8 x 3.6 x 1.6 inches
Simple app interface
Downward sensors for easy landing
Safe to fly indoors
Struggles against wind
If you're looking for a cheap drone to get started in the world of aerial photography, DJI and Ryze's collaboration on the Tello is the best place to start. The camera quality won't compete against some of the more expensive models, but the Ryze is primarily interested in getting you up and running with an easily controlled and safe copter.
Rotor guards and stability sensors play a big role here, not only ensuring your drone is safe and secure but keeping your surroundings out of harm's way as well. This means you can safely get some indoors practice in before moving onto bigger shots outside.
You might want to check the weather before you do head outside, though, as the Tello is a little unstable in windier conditions. Calmer weather, however, makes for an incredibly easy and fun flight experience - made all the simpler by a pared down user interface on the accompanying app.
The forward facing camera means this is geared more towards selfie shots or smaller frames than big sweeping landscapes, though downward sensors maintain extra stability in the air and can allow the drone to hover steady as well .Those sensors can also be used for a neat little trick in which the Tello lands in your palm.
4. Holy Stone HS160 Shadow
Best budget drone
Camera: 720p | Flight time: 8 minutes | Weight: 425g | Dimensions: 7 x 7 x 1.2 inches
Excellent low price
Easy take off and landing
Real time video transmission can struggle
If you're on a strict budget, or need a copter you won't want to worry about too much while flying, the Holy Stone HS160 Shadow is an incredibly cheap drone. You're picking up a much sparser experience than pricier models here, and the real-time image transmission can struggle a little. However, all the basics are covered here with one press take off and landing, headless mode for orienting your drone's direction easily, and even a mode for use with first person view as well.
The camera isn't going to be winning you many photography awards, and there are more sturdy builds out there but if you're just looking for a cheap drone to dabble in weekend flights you can't go wrong with this price tag.
In June, we got wind that DJI was about to release its most affordable drone yet: the $299 DJI Mini SE. It appeared to be a revamped Mavic Mini for $100 less — or depending on how you think, $150 more affordable than the $449 DJI Mini 2, our current fav under the $500 mark. The only question was, would it have any real improvements over the aging Mavic Mini or just be an affordable rebrand?
This week, DJI quietly put the Mini SE on sale, and we now have the answer.
Here are the only differences between the old $399 Mavic Mini and the new $299 Mini SE, as far as we can tell by poring over the company’s spec sheets and FAQ:
- It uses the DJI Mini 2’s newer chassis, with fewer exposed screws, stronger arms, and increased wind speed resistance
- It uses the DJI Mini 2’s lighter, more powerful LiPo batteries, propellers, and charging hub
- There’s a USB-C charging port on the drone, instead of micro-USB
- You don’t have to update the firmware to get 24p video or manual ISO settings
- “DJI Mini SE does not have ‘4K’ printed on the lens, and the rear aircraft status indicator is not clickable.”
The rest seems exactly the same — which, importantly, means you don’t get the far longer range and more reliable connection of the DJI Mini 2’s more capable OcuSync controller. The Mini SE comes with the old folding Mavic Mini design that relied on “enhanced Wi-Fi” instead, and you can’t just swap the controller for the newer one either. There’s also no 4K video, just 2.7K and 1080p, and it likely won’t offer the photo quality improvements we enjoyed in our Mini 2 review.
Technically, DJI says a few other accessories are interchangeable between its three mini drones:
The Mavic Mini battery charging hub cannot charge the DJI Mini SE battery, but the DJI Mini SE battery charging hub can charge the Mavic Mini battery.
Although DJI Mini SE can use Mavic Mini’s battery, the power will decrease and the total weight will exceed 250 g, requiring registration in some countries and regions.
The DJI Mini SE Intelligent Flight Battery, propellers, Two-Way Charging Hub, and 360° Propeller Guard are compatible with DJI Mini 2. The Mavic Mini DIY Creative Kit, Mavic Mini Snap Adapter, Mavic Mini Propeller Holder, and Mavic Mini Intelligent Flight Battery (international version) are compatible with DJI Mini SE.
Like with the Mavic Mini, your wireless range depends on where you buy and where you use it, with the Americas, Australia, New Zealand, and Taiwan getting a version (MT2SS5) with 4 km transmission range, while Europe and Asia may be limited to 2 km or even 500 meters depending on the version.
You can find the DJI Mini SE today at Amazon, Adorama, Best Buy, B&H, and eBay in the United States. At under 249 grams, you don’t need to register it here, though you will need to take the FAA’s incredibly quick and easy test if you’ll be flying for fun.

Sale dji mini
Amazon now offers the DJI Mavic Mini Combo for $349.99 shipped. While you’d typically pay $499 for the package, today’s offer delivers a new all-time low with an enticing $149 in savings attached while also beating our previous mention by $50. Summer may be on the way out, but there’s still plenty of time to take to the skies for some fall aerial photography sessions. DJI Mavic Mini features a 3-axis motorized gimbal to deliver ”ultra-smooth” 2.7K Quad HD videos thanks to its onboard 12MP camera. Each of the three included batteries will net you 30 minute of flight time, which rounds out the package alongside some additional accessories and a carrying case to store everything in. Over 8,100 customers have left a 4.8/5 star rating and you can get a closer look in our review. Head below for more.
For comparison, today’s offer is $250 under the price of the newer DJI Mini 2 Fly More Combo, making it a much more cost-effective solution to getting out and flying a drone this summer. You can get all of the details on how the two miniature quadcopters compare in our coverage over at DroneDJ, but rest assured that there isn’t as compelling of a package out there even considering you’re going with a previous-generation model.
If bringing a drone into your photography kit is going to be a little much, don’t forget you can supercharge your smartphone-centered setup with much of the same stabilization features noted on the Mavic Mini by picking up the DJI OM 4. Currently on sale for an all-time low, you can drop the price on the gimbal with magnetic iPhone mount to $129.
DJI Mavic Mini Quadcopter features:
Fly faster, longer and quieter with this DJI Mavic Mini drone. The high-capacity battery lets you enjoy plenty of flight time on a single charge. The downward-vision-sensing feature and GPS allow for precise hovering and great stability. Shots that look like they came from a Hollywood film set are just a few taps away with Mavic Mini’s QuickShot modes, which include Dronie, Circle, Helix, and Rocket. Just select your QuickShot and Mavic Mini will execute an elaborate preset motion while recording.

About the Author
[Update: June 30, 7:13 am PT] The DJI Mini SE will NOT launch in the United States or Europe (except Russia).
Read more:No, DJI’s sub-250-gram, sub-$300 Mini SE is not coming to US
According to a statement sent to DroneDJ by DJI:
The DJI Mini SE is a specialized product tailored for entry-level drone pilots in markets where consumer drone use is emerging. It uses the internal components of the Mavic Mini in the shell of the Mini 2, which generates slightly higher wind resistance but provides much of the performance of the original Mavic Mini at a very attractive price. There are currently no plans to sell this product in the US or Europe (apart from Russia). DJI Mini 2 remains our flagship entry-level drone, with its superior 4K/30fps resolution and up to 10km image transmission (subject to local rules and regulations).
Earlier version of this story:
DJI’s new entry-level drone, the DJI Mini SE is finally out in the wild. The sub-250-gram drone, which got listed on Walmart a while ago without any fanfare from DJI, is now officially available for purchase in Malaysia. Which can mean only one thing – a worldwide release of the Mini SE is just around the corner!
Also cementing our suspicions is the DJI Fly app, which has already added support for the Mini SE in its latest update (version 1.4.8).
DJI Mini SE: New shell, old controller
Essentially, the Mini SE is the original Mavic Mini in the Mini 2’s shell. And while there were speculations earlier that the Mini SE will come packaged with the same controller that ships with the Mini 2 or Air 2S, we can now confirm that the budget drone is being shipped with the original, foldout-style Mini controller.
Here’s a screengrab from an online store in Malaysia selling the Mini SE that shows the controller:
And here’s the actual DJI Mini SE Fly More Combo box from Drones Kaki, a DJI Enterprise Authorized Reseller in Malaysia, that also shows the controller:
To recap, the Mini SE has the same key specs as the Mini: 3-axis gimbal setup, 12 MP photos and 2.7K video capture, 30 minutes of flying time, a 2.5-mile wireless range, and weighing under 249 grams.
It’s not the best offering by DJI, and nowhere close to the incredible 4K capabilities of the Mini 2. But at the rumored, highly competitive price of $299, the special-edition drone remains very much a steal.
Mini SE price in US: $299 or $325?
It’s worth noting that the base price of the drone in Malaysia is listed as RM 1,349, which would translate to almost $325 in the United States. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that the drone will ship for more than $299 in the US.
This is because the prices for the same product vary in different countries/regions based on sales tax and import duty. For example, the Air 2S base model, which costs $999 in the US, sells for RM4,499 or $1,083 in Malaysia.
In the meantime, we are keeping our eyes peeled for any news about the launch of Mini SE outside Malaysia. Stay tuned!

Waiting for DJI Mini SE drone? This Prime Day 2021 deal on the Mavic Mini Combo offers much better value for money than the rumored Mini SE. Here’s how…
For Prime Day 2021, DJI is offering the original Mavic Mini Combo at a discounted price of $397. In addition to the 12 MP, 2.7K HD sub-250-gram drone, the highlights of this combo are three intelligent batteries, a 360° propeller guard, and a carrying bag. And to sweeten the deal, DJI is also throwing in a Samsung 128 GB microSD card with the combo to enable you to capture more footage with those extra batteries.
On other days, buying this combo and the microSD card would have set you back by $524. So, there’s a massive $126 or 24% savings right there.
Prime Day Mavic Mini Combo vs. Mini SE
The Mini SE, which has mysteriously appeared at Walmart, is expected to cost $299. This price point is, no doubt, a game-changer for someone looking to buy their first drone. But on the technical side, the Mini SE has only a few cosmetic differences from the original Mavic Mini, and apparently the same specs.
So, to be able to get two extra sets of batteries, an extra pair of propellers, a propeller guard, a carrying bag, and a 128 GB microSD card for less than $100 is definitely a bargain.
DJI Mavic Mini fulfills all the basic requirements of a first-time drone buyer: a reliable, long-range, sub-250-gram drone that doesn’t break the bank. Sure, the Mini 2 with its 4K video and more powerful motors is a better drone. But let’s not forget that the Mini 2 Fly More Combo will set you back by $599.
The bottom line is DJI doesn’t put its products on sale very often. So, Prime Day is an event we really look forward to for grabbing a discount on its best-selling drones. And at $397, the Mavic Mini Combo and a 128 GB microSD card is definitely a deal worth grabbing before 11:59 pm PDT on June 22.
