LastPass for Microsoft Edge

Handy and efficient extension that brings everything that LastPass has to offer directly within your computer's Microsoft Edge browser

In a world where everything is supposed to be personalized and secure, it is impossible to stumble upon a website that lets you view the content and access its features and services without registration first. Give that it is unwise to have the same account name and password on all of your services, you will soon find yourself frequently frustrated over forgetting your account data, and having to go through sometimes lengthy recovery processes. If you're a Microsoft Edge user and frequently encounter this problem, then it is probably time you start using a password manager and keeper such as  LastPass: Free Password Manager.

The famous password manager also supports Microsoft Edge

As fortune would have it, LastPass is also available in the form of extensions for some of the most popular browsers out there, namely Chrome, Firefox, Opera or Maxthon, while also offering services to Microsoft's very own Edge. As far as setup goes, this program can be acquired from the Microsoft Store just like your typical app, and it will then be available in the "Extensions" sub-menu of your Microsoft Edge browser.

Safe and secure credential storage

LastPass: Free Password Manager is not limited to just storing your account and password info from all the websites you visit, it is also capable of storing credit card details, shopping profiles, it has an intuitive form filling feature and a strong password generator. These tools are accessible via a web-based interface in a separate Tab, acting as a virtual UI that gives you access to all of its features without cluttering the browser itself.

A good solution for your data keeping problems

LastPass: Free Password Manager proves itself to be a safe and secure solution for all of your password forgetting problems, and the fact that it offers a whole plethora of other neat features and tools without any visible effects on the browser's performance is a bonus.

You have long been able to export your saved passwords in Edge into a CSV document, but the only way to import passwords has been to sync passwords from Chrome and other browsers.

Now in the latest Edge Canary browser (version 90) Edge has now added the option of importing passwords from a CSV file, the same type of file used by password managers like LastPass to export your saved passwords.

The feature is currently behind the Password import flag under Edge://flags.

Edge already offers many of the same features of a password manager, such as suggesting strong passwords, detecting if your password has been leaked, and syncing your passwords over desktop and mobile.  The feature will be particularly useful for those who are ditching a password manager like LastPass, which recently increased its fees for basic cross-platform functionality.

HELP FILE

LastPass for Microsoft Edge Legacy (no longer supported)

Please review important information below about the LastPass web browser extension no longer being supported on the Microsoft Edge Legacy web browser.

What is happening, and when?

Last year Microsoft announced that starting March 9, 2021 they would stop supporting the Legacy Edge web browser and no longer provide security updates to maintain it. As a result, the LastPass for Microsoft Edge Legacy web browser extension is no longer supported as of May 10, 2021, and will no longer function after May 18, 2021.

Why is this happening?

At LastPass, we are committed to providing the best-in-class security to help keep your digital life organized and secure. For this reason, we cannot continue to support applications that are no longer receiving the latest security updates, and therefore we are dropping support for the LastPass for Microsoft Edge Legacy web browser extension as of May 10, 2021.

How does this impact me?

After May 18, 2021, the LastPass for Microsoft Edge Legacy web browser extension will no longer function. This means you will only be able to log in to your online web Vault (by logging in to the LastPass website), but will no longer be able to use the LastPass web browser extension on Microsoft Edge Legacy.

Note: You will not lose any of your LastPass Vault data; you can continue to access LastPass using any of our supported web browser extensions, mobile apps, and/or desktop applications.

As a LastPass user, what actions do I need to take?

We have suitable alternatives to optimize both your security and user experience with LastPass.

You can continue to access LastPass using any of the supported alternative options:

Will I be affected if I don't take any action?

No – you will always have continuous access to your LastPass Vault data. These changes just mean that after May 18, 2021 you will no longer be able to use the LastPass extension on Microsoft Edge Legacy web browser only. You can continue to log in and access LastPass using any of the alternative options listed above.

I am a LastPass admin of a business account, what actions do I need to take on behalf of my users?

If your users no longer use the Microsoft Edge Legacy web browser, no action is needed from you.

If you used the LastPass MSI installer to deploy LastPass to your users across your company, there is no action needed from you. However, please note that the LastPass for Microsoft Edge Legacy web browser extension will automatically be removed from the Legacy Edge web browser upon the next update on or after May 18, 2021.

LastPass is supported on Chromium-based Microsoft Edge.

The LastPass web browser extension for Microsoft Edge is available on our LastPass downloads page.

As a general user, how do I get the new Microsoft Edge?

If you don't already have the new Microsoft Edge installed, you can either wait for it to be released via Windows update, or manually install it on your own.

As an IT administrator, how do I get the new Microsoft Edge for distribution?

Can I still use LastPass on the previous version of Microsoft Edge?

Yes. Since they are two separate web browsers, there are two separate LastPass web browser extension installers are available – the original version being Microsoft Edge (Legacy) and the new Chromium-based version being Microsoft Edge.

Where can I find more information about Chromium-based Edge?
