Grocery Delivery & Pickup FAQs

Q. How are customer service issues resolved by Instacart?

A. Please contact Instacart's customer happiness center at https://shop.aldi.us/help.

Q. How do customers obtain a refund on products that they ordered through Instacart?

A. For refunds on products purchased through Instacart, please contact Instacart Help Center and for returns visit your nearest ALDI store and provide the Instacart receipt to receive a full refund.

Q: Why are there different prices in store compared to what is on my receipt?

A: Item prices may vary from in-store prices in your area. Prices may be higher than in-store prices to cover the cost of personal shopping. Learn More

Q: Why is there a hold placed on my credit card?

A: For orders in process, Instacart places a temporary authorization hold for a slightly higher amount than your estimated order total. This small difference accounts for potential changes in the final total due to special requests, added items, items replaced at a different price, and actual weight of items. Learn More

Q. When will customers receive their refund for a cancelled Instacart order?

A. Refunds may take up to seven business days to process. In some cases, the customer's bank may adjust the original charge amount instead of displaying a separate refund. Alcohol sales are final.

Q: Why is the final total different from my total at checkout?

A: When you place an order, Instacart shows you the anticipated total, including estimated taxes and fees. The final total charged to your card may be different if any changes occur during the shopping process, such as:

  • An item is out of stock and you’re refunded

  • You add an item to your order after checkout

  • An item you order needs to be replaced, and the replacement has a different price

  • An item you order is sold by weight and the exact weight is slightly different

  • Your personal shopper fulfills a special request for an item not in the catalog.

Aldi opening new stores and expanding curbside pickup with Instacart to 500 more locations in 2021

Supermarket chain Aldi is doubling down on curbside pickup.

The discount grocer is expanding its curbside pickup to approximately 500 more stores by the end of 2021 after adding the service to about 600 stores in 35 states last summer, Aldi shared exclusively with USA TODAY Wednesday.

Curbside pickup has grown dramatically in popularity and availability during the coronavirus pandemic. Retailers including Sam's Club, Best Buy, Macy's, Kohl's and Old Navy added it as shoppers try to make fewer trips to stores.

Aldi is opening about 100 new stores this year when other retailers such as Macy's, Bed Bath & Beyond, Sears, J.C. Penney and Godiva are closing locations.

“We’re growing because our customers love our amazing quality products at unbeatable prices," Aldi U.S. CEO Jason Hart told USA TODAY in a statement. "As we continue to grow, we remain focused on always offering the lowest possible prices to as many people as possible, no matter how they choose to shop."

Aldi has more than 2,000 stores across 37 states and said it is on track to become the third-largest grocery retailer by store count by the end of 2022. The new locations are planned with a focus on Arizona, California, Florida and the Northeast.

The company said it is breaking ground on a regional headquarters and distribution center in Loxley, Alabama, that will support the company’s expansion throughout the Gulf Coast region.

Curbside pickup with Instacart

The added convenience of curbside pickup often comes at a price.

Aldi uses Instacart for curbside orders and deliveries. Prices through the on-demand grocery shopping service can be higher than in-store prices, and a small pickup fee is applied to orders to offset costs of the personal shoppers, Aldi says on its website.

Instacart works with more than 60 grocery retailers, including Albertsons, Food Lion, Publix, Sprouts, the Fresh Market and Wegmans, and offers pickup at more than 3,300 stores across 30-plus states.

Costco started testing curbside pickup with Instacart at three New Mexico clubs.

Aldi's curbside pickup works like Walmart and other grocery retailers where you select an available pickup time and location before checking out. Stores have designated parking spots for curbside pickup.

Find stores offering curbside pickup online, or on the Aldi or Instacart apps to search by ZIP codes.

Chris Rogers, Instacart vice president of retail, told USA TODAY that it offers same-day delivery from more than 2,000 Aldi stores and has pickup available at more than 700 stores.

It expanded its EBT Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) partnership to nearly 90% of Aldi stores, Rogers said in a statement, “so more customers can safely and reliably get the groceries they need.”

Amid the pandemic, using SNAP benefits, commonly referred to as food stamps, to pay for online grocery trips has surged.

How to Use Aldi Grocery Curbside Pickup

It’s no surprise that contactless curbside pickup has grown in popularity during the coronavirus pandemic. It’s become one of the most convenient and safest ways to shop for everyday essentials and groceries. Aldi is one of many grocery retailers that have expanded the availability of curbside pickup in stores—and that’s good news for customers who want to take advantage of the supermarket chain’s many deals and offerings.

What is Aldi curbside pickup?

Grocery chain Aldi, which has more than 2,000 stores across 37 states in the U.S., offers curbside pickup service in nearly 700 locations. Curbside pickup is available via Instacart. It allows you to shop online and select an available pickup time and location before checking out. You then pick up your order at designated curbside pickup parking spots at your selected location.

What are the Aldi curbside pickup locations?

Find out if your local Aldi store offers curbside pickup by visiting Aldi’s store locator or checking your ZIP code in the Aldi app or Instacart app. Aldi curbside pickup is available in nearly 700 locations, and the chain expects to extend its curbside pickup service to 500 additional stores by the end of the year.

How does Aldi curbside pickup work?

Follow these steps to place and pick up an Aldi’s order curbside:

1. Visit shop.aldi.us to start shopping for groceries, produce, meat and seafood, pantry essentials, household items and personal care products.

2. Select your pickup location and desired pickup time frames before checking out and placing your order.

3. A personal shopper will do the shopping for you and Aldi will notify you when your order is ready for pickup. You’ll be able to track the progress of your shopper as they collect your items. If an item is out of stock, the Aldi shopper may suggest a substitute for the items by sending you a message or sending a recommended substitute for you to approve. You can also choose to be refunded for missing items instead, and you can send your Aldi shopper a message until the process is completed.

4. When your order is complete, Aldi will notify you that your order is ready for pickup. Your order is stored in a temperature-controlled environment until you arrive to pick it up. You can choose to share your location with Aldi so they will be able to anticipate your arrival, but you can also just choose to notify them when you have arrived at the location.

5. Drive up to your location, look for the blue curbside space and follow instructions on signage. Aldi employees will then bring your order to your car and load them into your trunk or back seat.

There’s also no need to bring a bag to pick up your order. The shopper will use Aldi bags to bag your groceries and items.

What items are available for Aldi curbside pickup?

Most Aldi items are available for curbside pickup — that includes produce (packaged and fresh vegetables), meat and seafood, dairy and eggs, dry goods, snacks, bakery items, pantry and canned goods, household items, personal care products, and baby supplies and pet supplies. You can also choose from several vegan, organic and international foods.

While shopping for your groceries, don’t forget to browse Aldi Finds, deals and items available for a limited time.

How much does Aldi curbside pickup cost?

You pay an extra fee on your order when using curbside pickup. The fee, currently $1.99 for orders over $35, offsets the costs of Aldi curbside shoppers fulfilling your orders. If your total order is less than $35, the fee is $3.99. First-time customers, however, get free pickup on orders over $35. Just enter the code ALDIGROCERY2021 at checkout.

You may also notice that item prices for curbside pickup may be higher than in-store prices. This difference again covers the cost of personal shopping. While appreciated, tips are not accepted by Aldi curbside shoppers.

Can you return Aldi curbside pickup items?

All items are covered by Aldi’s return policy. Aldi-exclusive food items are backed with the store’s Twice as Nice Guarantee, which means the store will replace the product and provide a refund if these products do not meet or exceed the quality of national brands. To receive the Twice as Nice Guarantee, the product packaging and any unused product must be returned to the local Aldi store manager.

For items that are not covered by the Twice as Nice Guarantee (non-food Aldi Find items, alcohol, national brands or items with non-quality related issues), a replacement or refund will be offered. A receipt is required to receive a refund in the original form of payment.
