HP EliteBook 8460p Troubleshooting

Oh No! My battery does not charge and my computer does not want to turn on.

From the windows start menu, open the control panel and select the display settings option. Screen brightness and computer performance levels can impact how the laptop charges as the laptop uses as much power as it receives. To increase battery efficiency, turn down the screen brightness and adjust the computer’s performance level.

If the problem still exists after adjusting the settings, try resetting the laptop. Take out the battery and plug in your computer. Hold down the power button for 1 full minute. Plug battery back in, while keeping the charger on and try turning the computer on again.

Check the battery seating and connections. On the back of the computer, there are two release slides. Push the one on the left towards the outside of the computer and pull the battery off. Clean the area where the battery was and the connecting ports with a non-moist cloth. Replace the battery to its original place, pushing it in firmly to make sure it is properly seated.

Power failure may be due to a malfunctioning outlet. Check the outlet by plugging in another charger and seeing if it charges or find another outlet to plug your computer into.

If the outlet works properly, clean the charging port on the computer. Take a paperclip and unwind it. Carefully put the unwound end into the charging port and gently move it in a circular motion around the port.

Additionally, check the charging cord for any breaks or unnatural bends. Check the charging cord for abnormalities or exposed wires. If there are abnormalities or exposed wires, replace the charging cord.

What happened to my screen? It randomly does not respond and/or flickers at the most inconvenient times.

In most cases, randomly flickering and not responding is indicative of a software problem within the Windows operating system. A permanent dysfunction of the screen would point towards a cracked screen or a loose connection.

Sometimes the video drivers are out to date. To check you have the most recent drivers, visit the HP website and locate the computer using the serial number of your Elitebook. You can also check the video drivers through Microsoft. If applicable, download the newest version of the video driver. Double check in settings that the driver is downloaded and running. This should fix the unresponsive screen.

If the video driver is not the culprit, go into settings and select graphics properties. Click on the box to disable the refresh rate switching and the display power saving technology. This will slow the refresh rate that matches the display rate of the screen, and limit or fix the flickering.

  1. Disconnect all devices and remove all USB devices and SD media cards and remove the power cord as well.
  2. Remove the battery.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Reinsert the battery and plug the laptops power cord back in, leaving everything else unplugged.
  5. Restart the computer by pressing the power button.

NOTE: Re-installing the operating system and most recovery methods will either completely wipe the hard drive or have the potential to lose files. Make sure to backup all important files before trying to recover the operating system if possible.

If the windows boot files are corrupted, the laptop will not turn on all the way. If the problem exists after resetting the computer, reinstall or refresh the operating system by performing the following steps.

  1. Insert a System Repair Disk into the DVD drive on the laptop or a USB port.
  2. Restart the compter
  3. Load the boot options when the HP logo appears on screen by pressing “ESC.”
  4. Select the option to boot from a USB device or DVD
  5. Select one of the recovery tools available

It is recommended that you use the recovery tools in the following order, restarting the computer between each attempt.

Start-Up Repair: Fixes common problems with the boot process and other issues the can prevent windows from starting.

System Restore: Restore windows to a previous point in time. You may loose program changes but not your data.

System Image Recovery: Restores windows using a system image created during a backup. Select this option if the first two do not work and if you have a recent system image.

NOTE: Any data saved or changes made after the system image was created will be lost.

Install a Fresh Copy of Windows: Wipes the hard drive completely and re-installs a brand new copy of windows.

NOTE: While the previous two options retain most of your data, this option will completely wipe the hard drive and you will loose all your files and programs.

Continued problems with a boot errors can indicate a corrupted hard drive or indicate a failing hard drive. If problems exist after resetting the computer and reinstalling the operating system, replace the hard drive.

Use the following steps to reset the BIOS settings.

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2.  Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3.  On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  4.   Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  5. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

NOTE: Re-installing the operating system and most recovery methods will either completely wipe the hard drive or have the potential to lose files. Make sure to backup all important files before trying to recover the operating system if possible.

Typing with the keyboard is sporadic or does not work at all.

Plug in an external keyboard. If the external keyboard allows you to type, then your issue is hardware related. If the external keyboard does not allow you to type, then your issue is software related.

Begin by upgrading or downgrading device drivers for the keyboard. Drivers are software that allow your computer to communicate with hardware - like a keyboard or track-pad. When a device driver is out of date, it is possible that multiple drivers can conflict and prevent each other from working. In that case, manufacturers release driver updates.

To fix this issue, download drivers from the HP’s Support Center. Select the correct operating system and then click on ‘Update specific drivers in Device Manager.’

If the external keyboard allows you to type, then there is likely a hardware issue. To fix this issue, first check the capacitors surrounding the keyboard’s connection on the motherboard, the connection between the keyboard and the motherboard, and/or consider replacing the keyboard.

What happened to the audio on my computer? It used to be crystal clear.

If your audio is distorted or crackling, it is likely because the operating system has been upgraded to Windows 10. In order to correct this issue, locate the control panel and disable the DTS Audio enhancement option.

If the sound is muffled, cutting out, or crackling, restart the computer. The issue may be caused by an application that is overriding the device; causing the system audio to be directed to that application.

In this case, run the Audio Check assistant. To run the Audio Check assistant, navigate to HP’s support guide and proceed to step 2.

Plug headphones into the computer, if the audio is fine through the headphones, then the problem most likely is with the laptop speakers. In which case consider replacing the speakers on the laptop.

In unusual cases, this problem can be caused by hardware issues. If the Audio Check assistant cannot resolve the issue, seek advanced hardware replacement assistance.

Ouch! My laptop is hot to the touch and won’t cool down.

Generally, excessive heat equals bad news with the potential to damage and ruin the internal components of the laptop.

Stop and shut down computer immediately. Follow the troubleshooting steps below to clean the vents and check the operational condition of the fan. If the fan runs, replace the battery as burning smells are indicative of a battery heating up and about to fail.

IMPORTANT: if the battery is swollen or the shape is irregular, stop whatever you are doing and carefully remove the battery from the laptop casing.

A swollen battery 100% indicates a battery failure and can be very dangerous. Lithium Ion batteries used in laptops have several safe-guards built into them. If the battery is swollen or irregularly shaped, it has already bypassed all of the safe-guards.

When removing a swollen battery, be extremely careful to remove it without further damaging, twisting, or puncturing the battery. Further damaging the battery can expose gases with react with moisture and the air and cause the battery to catch fire.

Once the battery has been removed, tape over any electrical connection with electrical tape and recycle the battery immediately.

For further information and details, check out what How To Geek has to say about failed batteries.

Remove the bottom cover of the laptop and clean out all the air vents with short blasts of compressed air.

When the computer is turned on and begins to heat up, visually inspect the area surrounding the air vents on the side and bottom of the laptop. You should hear the soft whir of the fan running.

If the fan does not run, and/or the computer frequently shuts down and restarts with no warning due to the hot temperatures, replace the fan as soon as possible.

If you are really tech savvy, you can check the internal temperatures of the laptop by entering the bios settings as the computer powers up.

  1. When the boot screen is displayed, hit the F10 key.
  2. Once the bios settings load, select the hardware/CPU section to find the recorded temperature of the processing unit.
  3. The Elitebook 8460p has a i5 Intel processor with a maximum heat allowed of 100 degrees Celsius.
  4. You can verify the temperature limits by searching online for the specific processor used by your computer or device. Typically, the results will be displayed by google at the top of the search page.

If the temperature recorded in the bios of the CPU exceeds the limit, remove the bottom cover of the laptop and check that the fan works properly; is not physically damaged; and look for dust stuck in the thermal paste on the processor and evidence that the thermal paste is caked/dried out.

If the fan does not work or has physical damage, visit the fan repair page to remove and replace the fan unit.

For issues with the thermal paste, clean up the surrounding area and reapply the thermal paste. Thermal paste can be found at any computer or electronics repair shop.

Additionally, consider purchasing a cooling pad for your laptop if you still have repeated issues with excessive heat to help circulate airflow.

Like any good business partner, a laptop used in an office environment needs to meet certain criteria: It must perform well, last a long time, and not give away any of your trade secrets. You also want it to make you look good. The EliteBook 8460p ($1,199 as tested) exceeds all of those requirements. This redesigned notebook sports a rock-solid but elegant aluminum finish and features a silky smooth glass touchpad and improved SRS sound. Just as important, this system combines second-generation Core i5 power and AMD graphics with enough battery life to get you through those marathon meetings. Add in top-notch security tools and you have a notebook that lives up to its name. Is the latest EliteBook the king of business machines?

Design and Durability

The EliteBook 8460p benefits from HP's revamped DuraCase design. Decked out in a cool platinum color, this business laptop features a bead-blasted aluminum lid (which minimizes smudges and fingerprints) and a brushed aluminum deck. We also appreciate the large button on the front of the notebook for easily unlocking the lid, and subtle touches such as the engraved EliteBook logo to the left of the touchpad. Overall, the 8460p has a sleeker, more modern aesthetic than the latest Dell Latitudes and Lenovo ThinkPads.

The 8460p's durability continues with cast titanium-alloy hinges, as well as a new DisplaySafe frame that has a ring of rubber around the entire bezel to protect the screen. HP used magnesium for the base, which features an easily removable panel for upgrading components. To prevent damage from liquids, the laptop features both a spill-resistant keyboard and a bottom-case drain for spills. Like Dell's Latitude E6420, HP says the 8460p is tough enough to meet the MIL-STD 810G standards for drops, vibration, dust, temperature, and shock.

The trade-off for this robustness is that the EliteBook 8460p is thicker and heavier than its predecessor. This machine weighs 5.4 pounds and measures 13 x 9.1 x 1.3 inches, while the 8440 weighed 5.2 pounds and was 1.2 inches thick. The Toshiba Tecra R840 has a much sleeker 1.1-inch profile and weighs 4.6 pounds--making it easier to carry in a backpack--but it's not as rugged. To be fair, the Dell Latitude E6420's tri-metal chassis is just as thick as the EliteBook and weighs 6.2 pounds with a nine-cell battery.

Keyboard

Typing on the EliteBook 8460p is a pleasure, thanks to a spacious isolated-style layout with keys that provide strong tactile feedback. The keys also have a slightly gritty texture and a subtle curvature that made the experience comfortable. Our only complaint is that the Enter key is a bit small, as are the Up and Down arrows. While the keyboard isn't backlit, you can press a button above the screen to pop out a small LED that partly illuminates the deck.

A narrow and recessed power button sits above the keyboard on the left, and to the right you'll find three quick-access buttons for toggling the Wi-Fi connection, launching Internet Explorer, and muting the audio. When the EliteBook 8460p is off, the second button launches QuickWeb for getting online without booting Windows.

Touchpad and Pointing Stick

HP makes a big deal about the fact that the EliteBook 8460p features a chemically strengthened glass touchpad. (Apple also uses glass for its MacBook line.) We could easily glide the cursor across the wide--but not very tall--4 x 1.9-inch surface. Pinching to zoom worked fairly well, despite a bit of lag, as did the rotate and two-finger scroll gestures. We also easily three-finger-flicked through photos.

We encountered one alarming glitch early on in our testing. On two occasions, the cursor seemed to disappear each and every time we put our finger on the touchpad, even though the pointing stick continued to work properly. However, updating the Synaptics driver seemed to fix the issue. Even after the update, though, we found that accidentally brushing up against the touchpad with our left hand while trying to move the cursor stopped us in our tracks.

Business users who prefer a pointing stick will find a decent one between the G and H keys. With plenty of separation between the keyboard and stick, the raised nub is easy to find by feel, but the concave shape made manipulating the cursor somewhat slippery until we got the hang of it. We prefer the convex, grippy surface of Lenovo's TrackPoints. The two sets of mouse buttons, which are wide and have a rubberized feel, worked well.

Display and Audio

The EliteBook 8460p features a 200-nit, 14-inch display. The matte panel looks fairly bright, but we had to push the lid back further than we'd like to prevent images from washing out. While we could make out plenty of detail in an episode of Glee played on Hulu, horizontal viewing angles were narrow.

For a business laptop, the EliteBook 8460p pumps out a fair amount of volume. The two speakers on the left side of the system--one on the front lip and one on the bottom--got fairly loud when we played "Ready to Start" from Arcade Fire and "Pyro" from Kings of Leon on Slacker. The SRS Premium Sound control panel lets you easily enhance the audio for music, voice, or movies.

Ports and HD Webcam

The left side of the EliteBook 8460p houses the DVD drive, ExpressCard slot, SD Card slot, two USB 3.0 ports, FireWire (though we don't know who still uses that), and a power jack. A headphone, microphone, USB 2.0/eSATA port, and another USB 2.0 port that can charge gadgets line the right side of the laptop, along with a DisplayPort and lock slot. The bottom of the 8460p has a docking connector.

The EliteBook 8460p features an HD webcam that record footage up to 720p. Using the HP webcam software, the footage we recorded exhibited good color accuracy but we noticed a fair amount of pixelation at full screen. Video chats in a smaller window over Skype looked better.

Heat

Given that the chassis has plenty of room for ventilation, we weren't surprised by the EliteBook 8460's cool temperatures. After playing a Hulu video for 15 mintues, the EliteBook 8460p registered 90 degrees between the G and H keys, 88 degrees on the touchpad, and 89 on the bottom of the laptop. Those numbers are all well below the 95-degree threshold, when things start to get uncomfortable.

Performance

Our configuration of the EliteBook 8460p packs a 2.5-GHz Intel Core i5-2520M processor, 4GB of RAM, a 320GB 7,200-rpm hard drive, and a 1GB AMD Radeon HD 6470M graphics card. In PCMark Vantage, which measures overall system performance, the notebook scored 6,449. While that showing beats the 14-inch laptop category average (4,997), the Toshiba Tecra R840 (which has the same CPU, RAM, and a 7,200-rpm hard drive) scored a higher 7,728. However, the cheaper $1,079 Fujitsu LifeBook S751 (2.5-GHz Intel Core i5-2410M, 4GB of RAM, 320GB, 7,200-rpm hard drive, and Intel HD 3000 graphics) earned 7,983.

In everyday use the EliteBook 8460p proved to be a snappy performer. The laptop had no problem jumping between several open Internet Explorer windows or streaming HD video. You can also edit video quickly on this machine. The 8460p transcoded a 114 MB MPEG-4 video to the AVI format in just 42 seconds. That's much faster than the category average of more than 2 minutes but within a second or two of competing business notebooks such as the Tecra R840, LifeBook S751, and Dell Latitude E6420.

Despite having a 7,200-rpm hard drive, the EliteBook 8460p didn't boot very fast into Windows. It took the notebook 1 minute and 10 seconds to give us full control of the desktop, which is slower than the average thin-and-light notebook (64 seconds). However, resuming from sleep was almost instantaneous after pressing the power button. The drive duplicated a 4.97 GB folder with a relatively speed rate of 26.6 MBps, which is faster than the Tecra R480 but slower than the Fujitsu S751 (31.4 MBps) and Dell E6420 (34.6 MBps).

Graphics Performance

Although you can configure the EliteBook 8460p with integrated Intel HD 3000 graphics, our unit had an AMD Radeon HD 6470M card with 1GB of dedicated video memory. This GPU notched a 3DMark06 score of 5,032, which tops the category average by a wide margin (3,328). The Tecra R840 with AMD 6540M graphics (4,369) and LifeBook S751 with Intel graphics (4,809) also fell short of the EliteBook.

If you want to play mainstream games on the side, the EliteBook 8460p is up to the challenge. The laptop racked up 52 frames per second on World of Warcraft at 1366 x 768 with the settings on Good. That rate dropped to a still-decent 27 fps at the max settings. The Tecra R840 scored a lower 42 fps and 22 fps, respectively. We could even play Far Cry 2 at a fast 62 fps clip, albeit at 1024 x 768 resolution. The rate fell to an unplayable 21 fps at native resolution.

Battery Life and Wireless

The EliteBook 8460p has plenty of juice to get workers through most of the day. On our test the six-cell battery lasted 6 hours and 1 minute, which is about an hour longer than the category average. This runtime also beats the LifeBook S751 (4:57) but trails the Tecra R840 (6:34). The Dell Latitude's nine-cell battery lasted 8:59, but you can always equip the 8460p with a nine-cell as well. In fact, you can combine an optional nine-cell battery ($99) with another nine-cell slice--called the Ultra Extended Life Notebook Battery--for a claimed 32 hours of endurance. However, that's with wireless turned off.

The Intel Centrino Advanced N 6205 wireless card inside the 8460p delivered mixed performance. It delivered 37.3 Mbps at 15 feet from our router (above the 34.2 Mbps average), but only 18.6 Mbps at 50 feet (below the 22 Mbps average). On the plus side, the HP Connection Manager software makes it simple to turn Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on or off. You'll still need to use Windows' own software to connect to hotspots.

Software and Security

Like most business notebooks, the 8460p supports TPM and smart cards, and it comes with a fingerprint reader. But ProtectTools is our favorite security suite among business notebooks. It helps you easily set up and manage passwords and walks you through setting up a Windows password, fingerprint scan, and smart card for logging into Windows or websites. The ProtectTools dashboard on the EliteBook 8460p also includes a link to Computrace for theft protection, as well as quick access to Drive Encryption and File Santizer for shredding files. If you want to add an extra layer of security, you can even use facial recognition in combination with your Bluetooth phone to log into the EliteBook itself or web pages.

Another standout utility from HP is the redesigned QuickWeb, which let us boot up sans Windows in just 16 seconds--once we went through the setup process. QuickWeb has a new slick interface that includes multiple widgets, from weather and CNN news headlines to stock quotes and even a Twitter feed box. You can also delete and add widgets.

Other HP tools include Power Assistant, which helps you conserve battery life and monitor power consumption, Recovery Manager, and Support Assistant. A copy of Microsoft Office 2010 Starter, Norton Internet Security, Roxio MyDVD, and Skype also come pre-loaded.

Configuration Options

HP offers several SmartBuy configurations of the EliteBook 8460p that are ready to order. The entry-level model costs $999 and includes a 2.3-GHz Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive, Intel HD 3000 graphics, and Broadcom 802.11n wireless. Stepping up to our $1,199 configuration gets you a faster 2.5-GHz CPU, AMD Radeon graphics, and an Intel Wi-Fi card. Other options include Core i7 processors, a 1600 x 900 display, docking station, and a 128GB solid state drive.

Support and Warranty

HP backs the EliteBook 8460p with a three-year standard parts and labor warranty with 24/7 technical phone support. See how HP fared in our Tech Support Showdown and in our Best and Worst Laptop Brands report.

Verdict

HP has created an excellent business partner in the EliteBook 8460p. The redesign is sleek and durable, it performs well, and lasts a long time on a charge. We also like the above-average sound quality, comfy keyboard, and smooth and accurate glass touchpad, as well as the helpful security tools. Our only reservations about this $1,199 notebook are that it's slightly heavy and bulky for a 14-inch machine and that the pointing stick isn't as good as what the competition offers. Overall, though, the EliteBook 8460p is a compelling business laptop.

HP Elitebook 8460p: USB 3.0 ports do not work

  • Envy of HP Dv7 - 7223cl Windows 7 Ultimate 64 - Bit: USB 3.0 Ports will not work.

When I plug my mouse into one of the USB 3.0 ports, Windows does not sound has indicated that it is connected. I did a clean reinstall there two days and most of my drivers installed, but they do not work. A store local deleted Windows 8 PC and installed Windows 7, a few weeks ago, and USB 3.0 ports was working at this time, so drivers exist. After having some problems, I decided to do a clean reinstall of Windows 7, which has deleted all my drivers and I was able to reinstall most of them, but USB 3.0 ports has not worked since and still not working. I looked on the internet, but I couldn't find the right one. I looked in the management system and found that two devices: PCI Device and SM Bus controller are shown with a yellow sign. After looking under properties, I found that the two do not have their drivers installed (Code 28). Anyone know where to find the drivers for this problem?

Nevermind, it works now. I just had to uninstall and reinstall all components of AMD. Thanks for your information!

  • HP ENVY Beats all-in-One: usb 3.0 ports do not work

USB 2.0 hubs work but the 3.0 have never worked. Thumb drives and exterrnal readers do not appear in the file manager. No problem, indicated in the Device Manager.

    Thank you for your help.

After searching around, I found new info: F2 at startup - BIOS - HP has a tool to check if different parts of the computer are working correctly. (Officially), I learned that the usb ports two 3.0 do not work (despite Device Manager, telling all the devices work properly). I received a "failure code" and a phone number to call. Technical support has confirmed that the failure code indicated the 3.0 ports do not work, and for $215 they can repair (price including shipping Fedex).

I see if someone locally replace ports. Not sure that 3.0 ports are worth anywhere from $215. After all, the computer works just fine as it is. It's just annoying, they have never worked, that it took so long to finally find a solution, and that the warranty has expired.

  • HP 15-AF006AX: USB 2.0 port does not work

    Hello

I installed window 7 in my new laptop, but the usb port does not work in the case of data transfer.

and I am not finding a driver for this, can you help me for this problem

    Thanks in advance

    Hello:

The only suggestion I can offer would be to settle the AMD Chipset drivers from the link below the problem.

You want the first file on the Web page.  Install and reboot the PC.

  • EliteBook 8470p: EliteBook 8470p USB 3.0 ports driver not installed in Window 7 Ultimate 32 bit

    Dear Sir.

I am facing problem in installing driver for USB 3.0 in EliteBook 8470p on Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bit Port. So please say if 32-bit is taken in charge or 64-bit supported for USB 3.0 driver.

its two USB 3.0 ports doesn't detect the USB 2.0/USB 3.0 or USB key (Flash DRIVE, portable, etc.)

    Please answer soon

    Hello:

The usb controller you model posted ID indicates that your laptop is not a p 8470, but a p 8460.

You need this driver usb 3 to this ID.

    FTP://ftp.HP.com/pub/SoftPaq/sp54501-55000/sp54511.exe

The 8470p have the Intel USB3 controller and the 8460 p have the Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller.

That's why I finally asked for hardware ID, because if you had a 8470 p then or the other of these Intel drivers I posted should have worked.

  • USB 3.0 port does not work at the speed of the USB 3

When I plug in my external hard drive seagate-freeagent I get this message: "this USB mass storage device can transfer information faster if you connect it to a superspeeed USB 3.0 port» The computer has 3 USB ports, but none of them are the insert blue plastic that are supposed to have usb ports 3.

I want TO Ultrabook 4-1043cl I thought has USB 3.0 on this subject. According to these specifications, it must have 2 usb3 and 1 usb2.

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c03367057

My computer corresponds to the form above. The 2 usb ports on the left have a small "ss", painted between the 2 of them. A usb port on the right has a small lightning bolt painted there. As I said earlier, none of them have the blue plastic insert. I get the same message "this transfer faster if connected to usb 3.0...» When I connect the external hard drive to one of the 3 usb ports. All ports to transfer data, connect to disks, goodies, etc. They just don't transfer to 3.0 speeds.

I am running Windows 7, not windows 8 and I keep windows up-to-date.

I found this post talks about a Texas Instruments XHCI controller faulty, but my controller is an Intel USB 3.0 Host Controller stretch.

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c01893385

So I wonder why the usb 3 seems to work and how to operate?

Thanks for any help you can give.

    Hello

You won't lose me. I'm probably in a different time zone you are.  I live in Europe.

If you still have the unknown device follow these steps:

Open Windows Explorer and locate the SWSetup folder.

Expand the folder, find the sp56724 folder and double-click it to open it.

This is where the driver for the device unknown (USB 3.0 host controller should be).

    Call the Device Manager.

Right click on the unknown device and select Update driver software.

In the next window, select browser my computer for driver software.

Now, you can choose to let the operating system locate the software or the path to the sp56724 folder yourself. In both cases, ensure that a signed driver is selected.

  • EliteBook 8460p and external monitor/projector does not work

We have several 8460 with the same question.

They work fine until you try to connect to an external monitor/TV/projector and then the trouble begins.

When you use Fn + F4 to establish a dual monitor output the external monitor and integrated display switches between the two, as if the PC cannot determine the display to use. On rare occasions, it works but it is not reliable. I ve it first met on a fair and when I tried it before the session, it worked fine. During the session it just started this behavior. I took it out and replaced the graphics drivers, BIOS and made sure that the resolution was not the issue. It worked fine and I returned it to the room of the lesson and he did it again.

I started to believe that the projector was the wrong part here, so I didn't want to use the PC again on this fair, but no other computer shows no signs of distress.

Since then, it was at the beginning of this spring, I ve seen and experienced the same problem with several computers of the same type and with different monitor and they all behave in the same way.

I have spent some time now and searched the web but found nothing I ve doesn't explain anything around it and so far no update driver, and no other updates (including a full installation) has solved this problem.

There are the HP Elitebook 8460p with AMD graphics card in the computer.

There is no any other indication that something isn't going to the newspaper or whatever it is.

Any suggestion of what may be the cause of this is useful.

Hello and thanks for the reply.

The original problem is old, from 2012, in fact and more or less no longer applies. Some of the more troublesome computers has been replaced with other models at the time and the 8460 p is used more or less entirely users who do not have the need for external screens.

Have not seen it since a long time but we've updated the BIOS and drivers a couple of times so the current status is in fact "stable".

Thus, we can say that the problem is not more, but whatever solved the problem is unknown.

  • Usb and Ethernet port does not work after update of windows 8.

    Hello

I have a new HP laptop, and two days later the window updates automatically and my USB and Ethernet port stopped working. I returned it and got a new laptop and it is same thing. every couple of days that he update and refresh back to the old settings without losing my documents. I can't keep install my apps every two days after the update. Please let me know what I can do to update without having this same problem. If there is anything I can do so I have to return the laptop.

    Ben.

    Hi Ben,

You can install the Windows updates manually by changing the settings of Windows updates.

    1. Open Windows Update in Control Panel by dragging it from the right edge of the screen, typeSearch (or, if you are using a mouse, pointing to the top right of the screen, move the pointer of the mouse down and then clickingSearch), get into Windows Update in the search box, by typing or clicking onsettings and then type or by clicking install optional updates.

    2. In the left pane, tap or click change settings.

    3. Under important updates, click the following option:

Download updates but let me choose whether to install them.

    4. Under recommended updates, select the give me updates in the same way I receive important updates recommended , and then click OK.

Manually install the Windows updates and find the problem causing the update.

    I hope this helps.

  • Satellite L875D: USB 3.0 ports do not work after decommissioning of Win8 for Win7

    Hello

I got my OS of Win8 OEM for Win 7 Home Premium because Win8 is just not for me... Its a legal version of Win7 with a product key, storebought...

The laptop is a Satellite L875D-10N, which I bought in September 13.

Installation went well, except that 2 3 ports USB 3.0 no longer works.
I can stil fresh my phone or other devices, but the laptop is not "see". Also, USB drives and other storage devices are not recognized.

In the Device Manager the ar two ports under "other devices" and no driver is installed for them.
I tried in different ways to find and install a driver, but it never works.

Can someone help me with this? I would be very much greatfull!

    Kind regards

    Wilbert
    Amsterdam, Netherlands

    > In Device Manager, the two ports are listed in the "other devices" section and no driver is installed for them.

Indeed the USB issue seems to be related to the missing drivers.

You must install this driver USB 3.0:
    [Driver USB AMD v 2.0.7.176 Windows 7 - 64 bit: http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory = 2 & selFamily = 2 & selSeries = 178 & selProduct 7534 = & selSh ortMod = null & language = 13 & selOS = 30 & selType = all & yearu pload = & monthupload = & dayupload = & useDate = null & mode = a llMachines & search = & action = search & macId = & country = al l & selectedLanguage = 13 & type = all & page = 3 & ID = 87792 & OSI D = 30 & driverLanguage = 42]

In addition, you will need to make sure that this chipset driver has been installed too.
The laptop supports the graphics chip ATI and AMD chipset. The chipset driver is the driver of ATI graphics card and this is why you must make sure that this driver would be installed too.

  • NB200-12N - USB port does not work

    Hello

I updgrade my OS from windows 7 starter edition to now a windows 7 home basic 32-bit usb port does not work is the (only) in the left near card reader sd and lan.
Can you please hellp me to install it? I have download the drivers from Toshiba for my NB200
    But does not work.

    Thank you

    Paulo

If everything is OK and right drivers all USB ports should work. You cannot install the drivers for each port separately and force one of them to work properly. On this machine, all three ports are the same USB2.0 ports.

    Try reinstalling the chipset utility.

By the way: two other ports work well, right?

  • Re: USB Ports do not work on my Satellite L830-145

    Hello
I have Toshiba Satellite L830-145 with Windows 8 and all USB ports do not work. Have updated the Intel BIOS drivers and uninstalled and so on tried a lot and still no luck
Maybe here someone will have an idea

When I start the computer power light before windows starts and goes dead when windows starts loading
On USB3 I can recharge the phone, but it won t recognize anything in windows
    Any help much appreciated.

According to specification for laptop, your laptop comes with Win8 64bits.
Using the original version of Windows preinstalled?

All that you have done is just, but if nothing is done, maybe you should try to reinstall original recovery feature by image and test with the factory settings.

The webcam and the wireless card no more.
This boot problem after a storm in my area some time ago.

    Please can someone help.
    Thank you
    Sani

    Hello

    > This problem start after a storm in my area some time ago.

Because other devices don't work properly and because procedure didn t get it back help you solve this problem, I think that the problem is related to the hardware malfunction possibly that the motherboard was hit by lightning, which would explain the problems

I think you should ask the maintainer authorized Toshiba in your country to check the motherboard.

But in my opinion, that the warranty does not cover the issues of environmental impact maybe your household insurance could help you

No one knows the configuration of the laptop.
No one knows what OS you are using.

    HP ProtectTools

    Security Manager with

    Central Management

HP ProtectTools Security Manager is the security platform for business notebooks and desktops.

The HP ProtectTools Security Manager is an extensible client security console that delivers

enhanced security capabilities through add-on software modules. The ProtectTools modules are

available on the hard drive (also downloadable from the web) and can be configured in Software

    Setup.

HP ProtectTools is centrally manageable with the capability to manage notebooks from a single

point. HP ProtectTools is management ready out of the box, in partnership with Digital Persona.

Features address requirements that customers expect from a centrally managed security solution

such as user provisioning, credential reset, and credential revocation.

HP ProtectTools provides two separate management solutions, targeted at the enterprise and the

    SMB:

Digital Persona Pro AD: Designed for the enterprise customer. Integrates with Active

Directory and gives IT Managers the ability to provision users, create login policies based

on passwords, biometrics or smartcards. Management features also include remote

credential recovery in case the user forgets the password, loses the smartcard or cannot

use the fingerprint reader for any reason. In addition, advanced auditing capabilities are also

built in. Digital Persona Pro AD is available now.

Digital Persona Pro Workgroup: Designed for the small business customer. Provides

features similar to the Active Directory version, but for workgroups. Workgroup activation is

built into HP ProtectTools, and activation of up to 5 seats is completely free.

For more information on Central Management for HP ProtectTools, refer to:

    http://www.hp.com/products/security.
