Blended Learning in a Chromebook-Infused Classroom

Purpose & objective

This objective of this session is to give educators classroom examples and a framework for infusing Chromebooks in powerful and meaningful ways that impact student learning. We will look at the ways we can go beyond digital literacy to reach digital fluency and the importance of this idea. This session will use a variety of classroom examples with hands-on interactive learning to help teachers see, experience and take part in an overview of how we can use Chromebook to foster deep and effective teaching and learning in the classroom to go beyond the consumption model of note-taking and slide presentations.

Outline

Hands- on Learning Activity: “The True Power of Chromebook in the Classroom” activity infused with technology that we use to break down the learning framework and mixologist strategies for empowered learning.

Using the learning framework we will look at learning outcomes and the technology tools that can be used to amplify the learning process.

A quick tour of 3 classrooms using Chromebooks in dynamic and effective ways
Groups breakdown the characteristics of these three classrooms

2. The Chromebook Infused Classroom Learning Framework
Hands-On Example
Group Analysis

Add ideas to collaborative learning doc

3 Three tools that deepen the learning experience
Digital literacy vs Digital Fluency
Why an effective Google Search is more important than you think
Sample an interactive hands-on lesson using Classroom, Fligprid, VR and Google Geo Tools
Groups breakdown the characteristics of this lesson and how it relates to the characteristics from above.

5. Reflections, Resources and Question Time

Supporting research

This session will be based around ideas of Making Student Thinking Visible by both Ron Richard and John Hattie. It will include a look at essential questions from Understanding By Design by Grant Wiggens and Jay McTighe. It will look at the constructs of cognitive learning theory found in Make it Stick by Peter Brown. All concepts part of the book are also included The Chromebook Infused Classroom authored and researched by the presenter.
