Can You Name These Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards And Characters?

In 2001, the English adaptation of the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime first debuted on American television. The show quickly found an audience, with a huge fanbase that grew online. Yu-Gi-Oh! was an odd show, where the entire world revolved around a card game. There was an infectious enthusiasm to how seriously everyone treated the Duel Monsters card game, which was portrayed as having the power to steal the souls of the loser of each match.

The version of the Yu-Gi-Oh! card game that appeared in the show actually didn't resemble the physical game that you could buy in the stores. This changed over time, with the Battle City tournament following a new version of the rules that more closely resembled the actual trading card game. The localizers of the show had to change the cards that appeared on the show, as accurately depicting the artwork would have meant the show was classed as a commercial. This is why the cards looked so janky in the cartoon and didn't resemble the real game at all.

The first iteration of the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime ended, though the franchise continued. The show returned as Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, which used a school setting that resembled an anime version of Harry Potter. The card game also continued, with the focus moving from sword & sorcery to superheroes. As time went on, the Yu-Gi-Oh! card game won the Guinness World Record for the Best Selling Trading Card Game of all time, with billions of cards in print. Despite this, the vast majority of fans still remember the original series most fondly.

If you clicked on this quiz, then you probably think that you remember the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime and card game.We have thousands of candidates to choose from. So, Can You Name These Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards & Characters!

Question 1

This Japanese teenager is possessed by an Egyptian Pharaoh

The protagonist of Yu-Gi-Oh! is a Japanese teenager who managed to piece together the mysterious Millennium Puzzle. This allowed an ancient Egyptian Pharoah to possess him. Luckily, he managed to snag a nice Pharoah, who was interested in helping him win card games and impress his lady friend, rather than trying to start an awful cinematic universe with Tom Cruise. The main character of Yu-Gi-Oh! managed to win the Duelist Kingdom and Battle City tournaments, as well as gathering all three of the Egyptian God Cards together.

Question 2

This guy gets kidnapped more than Princess Peach

This character was adopted at a young age by Gozaburo Kaiba, who was the wealthy owner of KaibaCorp. When the Battle City tournament started, this kid became one of the administrators of the event, where he would ban people for cheating. He wasn't very good at his job, considering one of Marik's Rare Hunters set up a giant death trap that was armed with circular saws. There was also the other Rare Hunters who set up a death trap that involved falling through a glass roof... all under this kid's watch.

Question 3

You need to be able to speak Egyptian to activate this card

This Egyptian God card was used by Marik. It requires three tributes in order to be summoned and it will gain the ATK/DEF stats of the three monsters that were sacrificed. The user of this card can pay 1000 life points to transform it into its Phoenix mode, which will make it invulnerable and destroy all monsters on the opponent's side of the field. In the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga, the user of this card needs to be able to read the language of the ancient Egyptians to play this card. This was changed to knowing a specific chant in the anime.

Question 4

You can combine this card with the Curse of Dragon

This is one of Yugi's signature cards. It was a lot more useful in Duelist's Kingdom when cards didn't require any tributes in order to be summoned. This card would later receive new updates, which allowed it to be summoned for free if it was the last card in your hand. This card has recently seen a revival, as an updated version of it has become one of the first Link Summon monsters. These are a new breed of monster, around which the latest series of the anime is based.

Question 5

This trap will decimate all of your opponent's attacking monsters

The best trap cards are often the most simple ones. This card has the ability to destroy all of your opponent's monsters that are in attack mode. It is activated when one of their monsters tries to attack you. This card has been restricted on many occasions but is completely off the ban list right now. There have been many fan outcries concerning this card, as there are a lot of people who believe that it is overpowered and should be restricted.

Question 6

This is the signature card of the protagonist of the show

This is the signature card of Yugi Muto. It is said to be the most powerful spellcaster in terms of attack and defense. This lasted for about five minutes, as Yugi had a Ritual monster in his deck which was a more powerful spellcaster than his signature card. At the end of the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga, it is revealed that this card is actually a representation of one of the Pharoah's most powerful servants, who gave his life in order to serve him in death.

Question 7

If you assemble all five pieces of this monster, then it will obliterate your opponent

The most common ways in which you can win a game of Duel Monsters is either by depleting your opponent's life points or making them run out of cards to draw. There are also a few other alternate methods of winning, such as placing all five pieces of the Destiny Board card on the field or winning the battle prompted by the Last Turn card. This monster also offers a unique way of winning a duel. If you manage to draw all five pieces of this card in your hand, then you have won.

Question 8

This guy's got a bad feeling about dis Yuug

Yugi Muto might be the protagonist of Yu-Gi-Oh!, but everyone loved this character more. Yugi's best friend from school decided to take up dueling and illegally entered the Duelist Kingdom tournament, as he needed to earn some money to pay for his sister's eye operation. He would later enter the Battle City tournament, where he made it to the semi-finals and came close to beating Marik. It is suggested that this character defeated Yugi in the final duel of the Battle City tournament.

Question 9

This former champion uses insects in his deck

One of the first antagonists in Yu-Gi-Oh! was the National Duel Monsters Champion of Japan. He won the title with the use of Insect monsters, which he had a lot of support cards for. Yugi defeated this trainer at the start of Duelist Kingdom, as retribution for him tossing the Exodia cards into the sea. This duelist returned in later arcs, where he was defeated by Joey Wheeler and became a servant of Dartz. He would challenge Yugi again... and lose.

Question 10

This Rare Hunter has a deck filled with traps

This trainer is the adopted brother of Marik. He would later become one of his Rare Hunters and made his way into the final tournament of Battle City. This duelist used a deck that was based around powerful trap cards. He would have stomped over Joey Wheeler during their duel if it weren't for Wheeler's Jinzo card, which negates the effects of all traps. This duelist possessed a copy of the Winged Dragon Of Ra. When he summoned it to the field, it attacked him and cost him the duel.

Question 11

This woman is the bearer of the Millennium Necklace

Marik's sister was a fellow Tomb Keeper, who also acted as the bearer and protector of the Millennium Necklace. This mystical item allowed her to glimpse into the future, though her predictions were not always precise. She learned this the hard way when her predictions during her match in the Battle City tournament were incorrect. After the Battle City tournament ended, she gave her Millennium Necklace to the Pharaoh and returned to Egypt. She awaited his coming so that he could finally restore his memories.

Question 12

This duelist uses the power of Harpies

This duelist proves that you don't ever have to win any matches in order to be able to go around and tell people that you are great at Duel Monsters. When this duelist debuted, she originally cheated during her matches, as she used perfume to tell what cards she was using (which gives her a sense of smell on par with that of a bloodhound). She would go on and keep losing important duels, except on the rare occasions when she fought filler characters.

Question 13

This duelist only cares about money and dragons

The rival of Yugi Muto used to be a complete monster. In the original Yu-Gi-Oh! manga, he had no problem blackmailing and murdering people in order to claim all of the copies of his signature card. He wasted millions of dollars on creating hologrammatic Duel Monsters projectors and theme parks, as well as his own dragon-shaped airplane. This character was inspired by a real-life person whom the author met. This person acted like a snobby jerk when asked about a card game, which gave the author the idea for this character.

Question 14

The creator of Duel Monsters loves to cheat

The creator of Duel Monsters is a reclusive millionaire. He planned to use the power of all of the Millennium Items in order to resurrect his dead wife. This is why he stole the soul of Yugi's grandpa, as he wanted to blackmail Yugi into entering the Duelist Kingdom, in order to defeat him and take his Millennium Puzzle. This duelist loves to cheat. He created his own archetype of powerful monsters that only he had access to and used his Millennium Eye to read the minds of his opponent.

Question 15

This is one of the most powerful monsters in the game

This was once claimed to be the most powerful dragon in all of Duel Monsters. Only four copies of the card were ever created. Seto Kaiba destroyed one and kept the other three in his deck. He originally based his entire strategy around summoning these cards and fusing them together, into one of the strongest creatures in all of Duel Monsters. As time went on, this monster received numerous support cards in order to make it a viable option to build a deck around.

Question 16

This dragon was used by several characters in the show

This powerful dragon became one of Joey Wheeler's signature cards. He used it throughout the Duelist Kingdom finals, before losing it to one of Marik's Rare Hunters at the start of Battle City. Yugi would reclaim the card, but Joey refused to take it back, as he wanted to win it fairly from Yugi. Yugi dueled Joey at the end of Battle City, though we do not see the result. The fact that Joey had this card back in later duels in the anime suggests that he won the match.

Question 17

This monster loves making abridged videos

This is one of Yugi's signature cards in the anime. If you discard this card from your hand during your opponent's turn, then you won't take any battle damage until your turn begins. This is an excellent way of stalling your opponent, which is also very difficult to counter, as it does not need to be on the field in order to activate its effect. Yugi would later give an enhanced version of this card to Jaden at the start of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX.

Question 18

This god card can tribute two monsters to become even stronger

This Egyptian God Card was given to Seto Kaiba by Ishizu Ishtar, in order to protect it. This card allowed Kaiba to compete on an even footing with Marik and Yugi. When this card is summoned to the field, it cannot be stopped by any traps, spells or monster effects. If you decide to tribute another two monsters, then this Egyptian God can destroy all of your opponent's monsters on the field. Kaiba created a strategy based around summoning five monsters to the field so that he could use all of the powers of his Egyptian God.

Question 19

This sorceress quickly became a fan favorite

When Yugi dueled Arkana during the Battle City story arc, he summoned a female version of his signature monster to the field. This creature became a fan favorite, due to the fact that she wore very few clothes. Yu-Gi-Oh! fans tended to dress like this character at conventions, regardless of whether they looked like her or not. The final story arc of the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga tried to create a backstory for this monster in ancient Egypt, but most people ignore that aspect of the character.

Question 20

The creator of Dungeon Dice Monsters just kept hanging around

Not all of the Yu-Gi-Oh! story arcs were focused on Duel Monsters. The manga originally focused on lots of different games, which usually ended with the Pharaoh murdering someone with dark magic. After the Duelist Kingdom story arc ended, the main cast of the show became involved with the creator of Dungeon Dice Monsters. This was a dice-based game, where the player creates a path to the enemy's life points by summoning monsters. This character was the creator of the game and he sought revenge against Yugi for defeating Pegasus.

Question 21

This duelist filled his deck with mighty dinosaurs

This character actually debuted in the Toei Yu-Gi-Oh! anime. He appeared in the movie, where he is seen losing to Seto Kaiba. When the second Yu-Gi-Oh! anime debuted, he was shown losing to Weevil during the Japanese championship. He would later lose again to Joey Wheeler, which involved him giving up his precious Red-Eyes Black Dragon card. When the Battle City tournament started, he was quickly defeated by Esper Roba. He would later return as one of Dartz's servants during the Waking the Dragons filler arc.

Question 22

This American duelist suffered a terrible fate in the manga

This duelist was the Champion of the United States of America. He won a chance to duel against Pegasus and was defeated in an embarrassing way. This caused him to crash the Duelist Kingdom tournament, in order to seek revenge on Pegasus. In the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime, this character loses to Joey Wheeler. He then threatens Pegasus, which causes him to be dumped out of a trap door and into the sea. In the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga, he actually pulled a gun on Pegasus. This caused Pegasus to use his Millennium Eyes to make him turn the gun around and kill himself.

Question 23

The true enemy of the Pharaoh has been waiting a long time to exact revenge

The true antagonist of Yu-Gi-Oh! is revealed to be a transfer student at Yugi's high school. The two of them become friends, without realizing that they are both the bearer of a Millennium Item and are destined to face each other in battle. In the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime, this character has an overly polite way of speaking. He was given a British accent in the English dub, in order to reflect this. Joey was given a Brooklyn accent in order to reflect the rude way he spoke in Japan.

Question 24

This old duelist once had his soul stolen and placed inside a card

This is Yugi's grandfather. He is partly responsible for the events of the series, as he was the one who discovered the Millennium Puzzle and gave it to his grandson, which led to the Pharaoh's spirit returning to the world. Pegasus once stole his soul and placed it in a trading card. This only happened in the anime, as Pegasus sealed his soul within a VHS tape in the manga, which allowed Yugi to keep in contact with him through the use of a camera.

Question 25

This god card becomes stronger for every card in its owner's hand

This Egyptian God card was won by Yugi during the Battle City story arc. He defeated one of Marik's Rare Hunters and took the card as his prize. When this monster is summoned to the field, its ATK/DEF score is the same as the number of cards in your hand times 1000. Every time the opponent summons a monster with less than 2000 attack points, it is automatically destroyed by this card. This card is named after one of the employees at 4Kids Entertainment. It was originally named Osiris.
