Helm Hide Classic

This is a Classic version of my Helm Hide addon It works just ilke in the olden days so API functions are available. Because of that Classic version doesn't unequip your helmet/cloak, instead it will just hide it in resting zone and show it when you leave resting zone.

You can choose to either hide both helm and a cloak or just helm/just cloak. In addition you can choose to have helmet only during combat. To do that just go to the interface settings and select addons or use slash command /hh <option> or /helmhide <option> to turn on the mode you like. Here's the list of options:

  • on - it will autohide both helm and claok in resting zone
  • helm - it will only autohide helm in resting zone
  • cloak - it will only autohide claok in resting zone
  • off - it won't do anything in resting zone, you can still hide helm and cloak using special buttons
  • combat - show helmet only in combat
  • rest - hide helmet only in resting areas.

There are also two buttons on the character panel you can use to hide helmet or cloak and show.

World of Warcraft Legion: How to Hide Your Helm or Cloak

World of Warcraft players have been able to hide their helms and cloaks for ages, but how to do so recently changed with the arrival of Legion and its pre-expansion patches.

Historically, players would be able to hide these items using a toggle in the Interface menu. That toggle is now gone, and you’ll no longer be able to make these items invisible on a whim.

Instead, the ability to hide helms and cloaks has been moved to Transmogrifiers. You’ll need to find one in a city and have them set your items to hidden. They can even hide your shoulder piece. Oftentimes, you can find a place to deal with Transmogs near a city’s enchantment shop.

There’s no cost for hiding equipment, and no cost to revert your equipped item back to visible. Keep in mind that if you’re playing World of Warcraft’s new Demon Hunter class and chose a blindfold at character creation, your blindfold will still be there after you hide your helm. To get rid of that blindfold, you’ll have to visit a barber shop.

Dalaran has a convenient Transmogrifier in its enchanting shop, if you’re looking for one right after finishing your Legion starting quests.

how to not show helm in wow

World of Warcraft has lots of great customization options for players to make the absolute most out of, allowing them to change their character’s appearance in many different ways. There are lots of different great items to equip, and lots of them have really cool designs which make your character look more unique and appealing than ever before. But sometimes, some of the best equipment stat-wise doesn’t exactly look the best in terms of appearance. To get past this, WoW allows you to hide said equipment or change its appearance by switching it with another item’s. This can be done with helms as well

What are Helms in WoW?

Helms is basically a shorter-term used to refer to helmets in WoW. These are very helpful pieces of great which usually have great benefits, but they tend to look quite unattractive and can make your character’s appearance go from great to bad really quick. While stats matter much more than appearance, making sure that your character is to your liking is also very important for an enjoyable experience in games like these. So to get past this issue, Blizzard offers players a way to hide their helms in WoW!

How To Not Show Helm In WoW?

If you’ve been playing WoW for a long time now, there’s no doubt that you know there used to be a feature that allowed players to hide their helms with just a click of a button. This kept all of the helmet’s effects still in play, while just making it so that the actual helmet itself does not show up over your character’s face. This was a great feature, but sadly it was removed to make room for a new feature, which is arguably even more useful.

This is the transmogrification feature, which is known as transmog for short. This allows users to hide their helmets as well, but it also lets them do much more than just that. Not only can you remove your helmet, but you can also alter its appearance, as well as the appearance of all other gear that is a part of your character’s look.

To elaborate, players now have the option to change the way that an item in the game looks by replacing its look with the look of another piece of gear of the same type. This lets you keep the appearance of one great-looking gear while enjoying the great stats of another not-so-good-looking piece of gear.

To get back to the topic and answer the question, it is very easy to not show one’s helm in WoW. All you have to do is go to the transmog NPC and go into the menu that allows you to alter the appearance of your helmet. Players will be able to find an option here that allows them to hide their helm altogether. Enable this and your helm will no longer show in World of Warcraft.

There is a Classic version available to download. It works just ilke in the olden days so API functions are available. Because of that Classic version doesn’t unequip your helmet/cloak, instead it will just hide it in resting zone and show it when you leave resting zone.

With new Transmog system you no longer can show/hide your helmet in interface options, API functions are also gone. This my workaround this problem for people like me, who like to hide their helmets while in resting zones. Now addon, instead of hiding helmet, simply unequips it and puts it in the 4th bag and then equips it when you leave resting zone. So to if you want to be helmetless in cities you have to have at least one slot free in your 4th bag otherwise helmet will still be on your head.

You can choose to either unequip both helm and a cloak or just helm/just cloak. To do that just go to the interface settings and select addons or use slash command /hh <option> or /helmhide <option> to turn on the mode you like. Here’s the list of options:

  • on – it will autounequip both helm and claok in resting zone
  • helm – it will only autounequip helm in resting zone
  • cloak – it will only autounequip claok in resting zone
  • off – it won’t do anything in resting zone, you can still unequip helm and cloak using special buttons.

There are also two buttons on the character panel you can use to take your helmet or cloak off and put them back on.

Classic version also allows you to show your helmet only in combat you can do this by interface settings or via slash commands:

  • combat – show helmet only in combat
  • rest – hide helmet only in resting areas.

HOW TO HIDE HELMET IN PUBG MOBILE - HOW TO ENABLE HIDE HELMET OPTION IN PUBG - PUBG HIDE HELMET

Last Updated on October 18, 2020 by Aether

For those who are new to World of Warcraft, or those who have returned after a significant break, you may be wondering how to disable your helm. There’s a lot of reasons as to why you’d want to, due to the aesthetic nature of your gear, or that you simply don’t like your character wearing one. Either way, we have you covered. Whether you’re playing retail or classic, read on to learn how to hide your helm in WoW.

Retail players

NPC to hide helm in WoW BFA

If you’re a retail WoW player, hiding your helm is a little more effort than it once was. If you played a few years ago, you’d remember that there was a couple of options in the settings that would disable your helm and cloak.

However, these days, those options are now tied in with the transmog NPC. These NPCs are scattered across the world, and are found in most major cities. For a small price, you can not only hide your helm and cloak, but change the appearance of your whole gear completely.

When in a major city, speak to a guard and select the option for the transmogrifier. A small waypoint will be placed on your map, leading you to it. The questest way to get to a transmog NPC is to use your Legion Dalaran Hearthstone, and visit the NPC there, near the Enchanting trainer. This is what I do personally, especially as a Horde player.

However, if you want a quick reference for the main transmog NPCs, we have compiled a list of them below.

If you have a lot of excess gold, and wish to have an easier solution than running to the transmog NPC every time you get a new helmet, then consider purchasing the mount that has the transmog NPC attached to it.

Classic players

How To Hide Helm In WoW Classic

For those who play on Classic or Vanilla servers, you have a much easier time. Everything you need to do is right in the settings, and can be done at any time.

Simply do the following:

  1. Press Esc
  2. Interface Options
  3. Display
  4. Show Helm (or Cloak too)

Closing thoughts

Personally, I quite often disable my helmet, as I don’t like the look of most of them. I like to see my characters face, as I usually bond with my characters quite a lot, and it makes me feel more connected to them. I also feel like real heroes don’t wear anything to cover their face. The main exception to this rule, for me, is if I obtain a very rare or awesome looking helmet. For the majority of the player base, I’d assume that they disable their helm just because they think it looks bad. There are quite a lot of terrible looking models in WoW, but there are also lots of very epic looking ones.

For Shadowlands, it looks like the same transmog system will be used to hide equipment, just as it has been for the last few years. It’s unlikely to change, but with Blizzard’s track record for swapping things out for no reason, who knows. If the method to hide your helm does change in the future, we will update this article accordingly.

Aether

Aether has been playing World of Warcraft since 2006. In his youth he raided 7 days a week, but now just plays with friends doing Mythic dungeons and Arena. He swaps his main more often than he should.
